The proposals submitted will advance research, development and implementation of a number of health technologies and interventions to tackle infectious diseases

On 4 April 2023, Global Health EDCTP3 published its 2023 Work Programme with its proposed annual activities and funding opportunities to support research into infectious diseases. With a total budget of over €74 million, five of these funding opportunities (topics) closed submission of proposals on 4 July.

Ninety-nine proposals were submitted involving 392 different partners from 60 countries. 30% of these partners are based in the European Union and over 60% come from sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries that are members of the EDCTP Association.

The funding will support the career development of skilled infectious disease personnel working in SSA; support clinical trials that were negatively affected by COVID-19; develop and increase access to interventions to tackle infectious diseases in women and children; advance knowledge on Ebola virus disease; and strengthen ethics and regulatory capacity in SSA countries.

Evaluation of the submitted proposals by experts in the respective fields will be carried out until September 2023. The proposals selected for funding are expected to be announced at the end of the year.
